IPL 2025 Final Likely to Be Held in Ahmedabad, Playoffs Shifted to Mullanpur
The final of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 is expected to take place at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, according to sources close to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI). This decision follows extensive discussions about changing the venue due to unfavorable weather conditions in Kolkata, which was originally scheduled to host two of the playoff games, including the final.
In a strategic move, Mullanpur Stadium, the newly established home of the Punjab Kings, is set to host the remaining three playoff matches. This represents a significant milestone for the venue, as it will welcome high-stakes matches to a relatively new IPL location.
The venue change is part of a larger logistical adjustment initiated by the BCCI after a forced break in the season due to rising tensions between India and Pakistan. When announcing the league’s restart, the BCCI indicated that venue modifications would be forthcoming, although specific details were initially withheld.
Initially, the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and Eden Gardens in Kolkata were designated to host the playoff fixtures. However, heavy rain forecasts for Kolkata, along with other logistical challenges, prompted the BCCI to rethink these locations. Mullanpur, with its advanced infrastructure and relatively stable climate, emerged as the most viable option for the majority of the matches.
Sources confirm that while the BCCI has not yet officially released a new schedule or finalized venues, preparations in Ahmedabad are already underway, indicating a strong likelihood that the city will host the grand finale.
The Narendra Modi Stadium, recognized as the largest cricket stadium in the world, previously hosted the IPL final and has become a preferred venue for marquee matches due to its world-class facilities and large seating capacity.
With fans eagerly anticipating the conclusion of an already unpredictable season, the final being held in Ahmedabad and the playoffs in Mullanpur add an exciting twist to the current narrative of the tournament.
