Kananaskis, Canada: At the prestigious G7 Summit, Prime Minister Narendra Modi strongly reiterated India’s firm stance against terrorism, calling for immediate global action to counter terror networks. Addressing world leaders, he underscored the urgent need for decisive action against countries that support or promote terrorism, citing the April 22 Pahalgam terror attack that resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians in Jammu and Kashmir.

Modi expressed gratitude to the G7 leaders for condemning the attack and highlighted India’s subsequent Operation Sindoor, which aims to dismantle the terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir.

In his address, Modi also advocated for prioritizing the voice of the Global South, emphasizing India’s role in representing the interests of developing nations. “India has chosen the path of inclusive development based on the principles of availability, accessibility, affordability, and acceptability,” he stated.

Energy security and sustainability were key themes in Modi’s speech, where he emphasized India’s initiatives such as the International Solar Alliance, the Coalition for Disaster Resilient Infrastructure, and the Global Biofuels Alliance. Stressing the importance of renewable energy, Modi noted that technologies like Artificial Intelligence are energy-intensive, and that renewable energy is the sustainable way forward.

Regarding AI governance, he expressed concerns about potential misuse, particularly about deepfakes, and proposed watermarking AI-generated content for transparency. “We must address global governance issues of AI while promoting innovation,” he added.

The Prime Minister also highlighted India’s success in democratizing technology and called for international cooperation in technological advancement, rather than competition.

During his visit, PM Modi held meaningful discussions with South African President Cyril Ramaphosa and Brazilian President Lula da Silva, reinforcing their shared commitment to the priorities of the Global South.

He also congratulated newly elected Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum on her historic win, and both leaders expressed interest in strengthening India-Mexico relations in agriculture, semiconductors, healthcare, and critical minerals.
