SMCF Students Get First-Hand Broadcasting Experience at All India Radio
For students studying media, there is a big difference between reading about broadcasting and actually seeing it happen. Students from SGT University’s School of Emerging Media, Communication & Film Studies got that opportunity during an industry visit to All India Radio, where they explored the working environment of one of India’s most recognised broadcasting institutions.
The visit was organised as part of an experiential learning initiative aimed at helping students understand how professional broadcasting works beyond the classroom. Instead of limiting the experience to theory, the students were taken through different spaces involved in the journey of a radio programme, from preparation and production to the final broadcast.
During the visit, students explored the newsroom and gained an understanding of how news content is handled in a professional broadcasting setup. They also visited the iconic Bapu Studio, the Dubbing Studio, FM Gold and FM Rainbow studios. Each space offered a different perspective on the technical and creative sides of radio production.
One of the most interesting aspects for the students was seeing how an anchor goes live on air. It gave them a practical sense of the preparation, timing and coordination required to deliver content to listeners. The dubbing and studio visits also helped them understand how voice, sound and technical production come together in broadcasting.
For aspiring media professionals, such exposure can make classroom concepts much easier to understand. Terms and processes that may seem theoretical during lectures become more familiar when students see professionals working with them in a real environment.
The visit also created opportunities for students to interact, observe, and ask questions about the industry. It provided a glimpse into the different career paths available within radio, news production, dubbing and broadcasting.
The experience reinforced the value of learning outside the classroom. For the SMCF students, the visit was not simply a tour of studios. It was an opportunity to see the discipline, teamwork and creativity behind a broadcast and understand how their academic learning connects with the professional media world.
