The ministry of external affairs issued a strong protest against the UK government’s intolerable disregard for the safety of Indian diplomatic associates and facilities there. Top British officials have pledged that the government will take the security of the Indian High Commission “seriously” in response to the Khalistan separatists’ removal of the Indian flag from atop the Indian High Commission. The British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis called the event as “disgraceful” and “totally unacceptable” while London’s mayor Sadiq Khan said he condemned “the violent disorder and vandalism that took place”. He also tweeted “There is no place in our city for this kind of behavior,”. While the ministry of external affairs summoned the senior-most British diplomat in New Delhi late on Sunday night to express India’s “strong protest” at the actions taken by separatist and extremist elements. Serious discussions on how to make the British government more receptive to and accountable for Indian security concerns are currently taking place at the highest levels of the government. Updates from the London incident:-
1) The Tricolor was attacked, but officials at the Indian High Commission stopped it, and in retaliation, they raised an even larger national flag above the structure.
2) The Indian official was praised on social media for confronting the pro-Khalistan activist and saving the Tricolor. Videos of the incident also showed the official taking the protester’s Khalistan flag and throwing it away.
3) Lord Tariq Ahmad, a minister in the Foreign Office, expressed his “appall” and promised that the government will take the security of the Indian High Commission “seriously.”
4) Manjinder Singh Sirsa, a BJP leader, reminded supporters of Khalistan of the period when India flew out copies of the Guru Granth Sahib in an Indian jet with the Tricolor and saved hundreds of Afghan Sikhs during the Taliban offensive.
5) Today, the residents of White Hall can expect a stern protest from the Indian High Commission in London.
6) The Khalistani elements in Punjab were the target of a crackdown that the Sikh separatists were opposing, which resulted in over 112 arrests so far.
7)The search for radical preacher and “Waris Punjab De” leader Amritpal Singh has now entered its third day as the state police have intensified security to apprehend him as soon as possible.
8) Late on Sunday night in Jalandhar, Amritpal’s uncle Harjit Singh and his driver Harpreet Singh submitted themselves in near a gurdwara.
9) The Punjab government announced that the suspension of mobile internet, SMS, and dongle services will last till Tuesday noon due to the continuing investigation into Amritpal Singh.
