Virat Kohli Withdraws from Remaining Tests Against England
Former Indian cricket captain, Virat Kohli, has conveyed to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and the senior national selection committee his decision to withdraw from the remaining three Tests of the ongoing series against England. Kohli cited personal reasons necessitating his undivided attention, despite his commitment to representing the country being paramount. The BCCI has expressed understanding and extended support to Kohli, emphasizing confidence in the remaining squad’s capabilities to perform admirably in his absence.
This marks a significant departure for Kohli, as it will be the first time in his illustrious career that he will miss a home series. The decision comes at a crucial juncture, with India recently leveling the series 1-1 against England in Vizag. Additionally, middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer will also be absent due to injury, with the National Cricket Academy overseeing his recovery process.
In a positive development, KL Rahul and Ravindra Jadeja, who missed the second Test, have been declared fit and will rejoin the Indian side, enhancing its balance. The selectors have also addressed concerns regarding pacer Jasprit Bumrah’s workload management, confirming his participation in the upcoming Test.
Furthermore, Akash Deep has been included in the squad, replacing Avesh Khan. The selection committee opted for this change to provide Akash with an opportunity to develop his skills, considering his impressive performance against England Lions in a recent unofficial match in Ahmedabad.
These developments set the stage for an intriguing continuation of the Test series, with the Indian team poised to showcase their depth and resilience in the absence of key players.
