After a tough start with two losses, UP Warriorz bounced back splendidly in the Women’s Premier League. They clinched their first victory of the season in style, defeating the defending champions Mumbai Indians Women by seven wickets in a thrilling encounter on Wednesday, February 28th.
Opting to bat first, Mumbai Indians posted a challenging total of 161/6 in their allotted 20 overs, fueled by a brilliant half-century from Hayley Matthews. Grace Harris stood out with the ball for UP, conceding just 20 runs in her four overs and grabbing a crucial wicket.
In response, UP chased down the target with ease in 16.3 overs, thanks to valuable contributions from Alyssa Healy, Kiran Navgire, Grace Harris, and Deepti Sharma. Kiran Navgire’s explosive batting stole the show as she hammered the MI bowlers all around the park, scoring a blazing 57 off just 31 balls.
One of the highlights of the match was Issy Wong’s exceptional all-round performance for MI. Making her season debut, the 21-year-old showcased her talent with both bat and ball. She played a quick cameo with the bat, smashing 15 runs off just 6 balls, and then turned the game around with the ball by picking up two crucial wickets.
