Faculty Of Hotel and Tourism Management, SGT University Hosts Successful Three-Day Event for World Tourism Day

The Faculty of Hotel and Tourism Management (FHTM) at SGT University organized a dynamic three-day event from 25th to 27th September 2024 in celebration of World Tourism Day. The event highlighted the vital role of tourism in promoting cultural exchange, economic growth, and sustainable development, engaging students, faculty members, and industry professionals.

The festivities began with various competitions, including a quiz on tourism, poster-making, and slogan-writing contests. These activities saw enthusiastic participation from students across different disciplines. The quiz tested their knowledge of global tourism, heritage sites, and sustainable practices, while the poster and slogan competitions provided a creative platform to emphasize the importance of responsible tourism and travel. The participants showcased their skills with visually appealing artwork and thought-provoking slogans, promoting the theme of exploration and sustainable tourism.

The second day of the celebration featured an educational excursion to Qutub Minar, one of India’s iconic UNESCO World Heritage Sites. Students, accompanied by faculty members, had the opportunity to explore the rich historical and cultural significance of this architectural marvel. The visit provided hands-on learning, allowing students to connect their theoretical knowledge of tourism with practical experience. The guided tour shed light on the importance of heritage tourism and the role such cultural landmarks play in defining a destination’s identity.

The final day of the event brought an exciting fireless cooking competition, where participants showcased their culinary skills by preparing international dishes using eco-friendly methods. This unique competition promoted sustainability while celebrating global cuisines, aligning with the overarching theme of responsible tourism. Following the cooking contest, an exhibition featuring global travel deals and cuisines from different countries was held, showcasing the diversity of cultures and flavors. The exhibition highlighted the significant connection between food and tourism, reinforcing how cuisine is a vital aspect of travel experiences.

This three-day celebration concluded with a prize distribution ceremony, recognizing the winners of the quiz, poster-making, slogan-writing, and fireless cooking competitions. The winners were awarded for their creativity and knowledge, while the overall event reflected the university’s commitment to fostering innovation and understanding in the tourism sector. Shri Anil S. Kumar, CEO of SGT University, addressed the gathering, encouraging students to pursue careers in tourism and hospitality. He emphasized the growing importance of sustainable tourism practices and the role of the industry in preserving cultural heritage and promoting global connections.

The World Tourism Day celebrations at FHTM, SGT University, were a resounding success, combining education, creativity, and hands-on experiences to foster a deeper understanding of the tourism industry and its global impact.
