Between January 7 and January 19, a total of 504 cases of MCC violations were reported across the national capital, according to an official statement.
The police arrested 14,183 individuals under various legal provisions, including those related to the Excise Act. There has been a significant focus on curbing the smuggling of arms, liquor, and drugs, with increased vigilance at border checkpoints and targeted crackdowns on illicit activities.
During this period, authorities confiscated 212 illegal firearms, 295 cartridges, and 36,223 liters of liquor worth over ₹1 crore. The police seized 110.53 kg of drugs valued at more than ₹20 crore and over 1,200 banned injections. Additionally, ₹4.5 crore in cash and 37.39 kg of silver were confiscated during these enforcement drives.
“The Delhi Police are taking stringent measures to maintain law and order during the election period, ensuring a free and fair polling process,” the statement said.
Polling for all 70 assembly constituencies in Delhi is scheduled for February 5, 2025, with the votes to be counted on February 8. The police have ramped up their efforts to enforce the MCC and create a secure environment for voters.
The items seized highlight the scale of illegal activities law enforcement agencies address to uphold election integrity. The intensified operations by the Delhi Police emphasize the importance of transparency and fairness during the democratic process.
With these measures in place, the authorities aim to ensure that the upcoming elections are conducted without disruptions or undue influence from illegal elements.
