Haryana’s Tax-Free Budget Boosts Agriculture and Farmers

A significant move aimed at uplifting agriculture and supporting farmers, the Haryana government unveiled a tax-free state budget for the 2024-25 financial year. With an impressive outlay of ₹1,89,876.61 crore, marking an 11.37% increase from the previous year, the budget prioritizes the agricultural sector.
Chief Minister Manohar Lal, also serving as the Finance Minister, presented the budget during the ongoing Assembly session, highlighting key initiatives. Notably, the budget includes provisions to waive off interest and penalty on crop loans, providing much-needed relief to farmers
Of the total budget, ₹1,34,456.36 crore is allocated for revenue expenditure, while ₹55,420.25 crore is designated for capital expenditure. The government aims to enhance capital infrastructure with Public Sector Enterprises investing ₹8,119.24 crore.
Acknowledging the vital role of farmers, the Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to their welfare. He announced the waiver of interest and penalty on crop loans, subject to certain conditions, demonstrating support for agricultural growth.
In addition to agricultural reforms, the budget addresses various societal needs. Notably, the ex-gratia amount for Next of Kin of Battle Casualties is increased to ₹1 crore, showcasing recognition for sacrifices made. Furthermore, a startup fund of ₹10 crore is proposed to encourage drone manufacturing, promising innovation and economic growth.
The budget also addresses housing issues, with the introduction of the Mukhyamantri Gramin Awas Yojana. This initiative aims to provide housing solutions for beneficiaries awaiting plot allotments, reflecting the government’s commitment to inclusive development.
Overall, the budget reflects the government’s dedication to fostering comprehensive socio-economic growth, with increased allocations for agriculture, rural development, health, education, and infrastructure sectors.
