Reported by Aman Pandey
India has revealed its 15-player squad for the much-anticipated ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024, with Rohit Sharma leading the charge.
Ahead of the announcement, there was speculation surrounding the wicketkeeper slot, but Rishabh Pant and Sanju Samson secured their places in the team.
Pant makes a triumphant return to international cricket after recovering from a serious accident in 2022 that sidelined him for over a year.
Shivan Dube’s impressive IPL performance earned him a spot in the squad, showcasing his form for the Chennai Super Kings.
India has opted for a spin-heavy bowling attack, featuring Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, Kuldeep Yadav, and Yuzvendra Chahal. Jasprit Bumrah will spearhead the pace battery, supported by Arshdeep Singh, Mohammed Siraj, and vice-captain Hardik Pandya.
The batting lineup boasts stalwarts like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Virat Kohli, and Suryakumar Yadav, who are expected to anchor the top order alongside captain Rohit.
Reserves include Shubman Gill, Rinku Singh, Khaleel Ahmed, and Avesh Khan.
Notably absent from the squad is KL Rahul, who featured in India’s previous two T20 World Cup campaigns.
India is placed in Group A alongside arch-rivals Pakistan, Ireland, Canada, and co-hosts USA. Their journey kicks off on 5 June against Ireland in New York before the highly anticipated clash against Pakistan.
Teams have until 25 May to make changes to their squads, with any alterations requiring approval from the ICC’s Event Technical Committee.
