Indian Army Thwarts Major Drone and Missile Attack by Pakistan, Retaliates to Ceasefire Violations
In a significant escalation along the western front, Pakistan launched a series of drone and missile attacks targeting multiple regions along the India-Pakistan border during the night of May 8 and 9, 2025. The Indian Army confirmed on Friday that these attacks were successfully thwarted, and a strong response was delivered to counter the ceasefire violations initiated by Pakistani troops.
According to an official statement from the Indian Army, the Pakistan Armed Forces executed coordinated attacks using drones and other munitions across the entire Western Border, with a particular focus on Jammu and Kashmir, Rajasthan, and Punjab. At the same time, Pakistani forces violated the ceasefire agreement by opening fire at various points along the Line of Control (LoC) in Jammu and Kashmir.
“The drone attacks were effectively repulsed, and a fitting response was given to the ceasefire violations,” stated the Army. While the Army did not disclose the exact operational tactics employed during the counteraction, it emphasized its unwavering commitment to protect the nation’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.
Indian air defense systems were crucial in intercepting and neutralizing multiple enemy projectiles. Drones and missiles were shot down over Udhampur, Samba, Jammu, Akhnoor, and Nagrota in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as over Pathankot in Punjab.
Security analysts suggest that this Pakistani aggression marks a notable increase in cross-border hostilities. However, India’s swift and effective countermeasures demonstrate the operational readiness and technological capability of the Indian Armed Forces.
The Army’s strong response and preparedness underscore India’s defensive posture and signal its zero-tolerance stance against any form of infiltration or aggression. “All nefarious designs will be met with force,” the Army reiterated in its closing statement.
The situation continues to be monitored closely, with Indian forces remaining on high alert across all vulnerable sectors along the border.
