MS Dhoni Inducted into ICC Hall of Fame, Becomes 11th Indian to Receive the Honour

In a historic moment for Indian cricket, former India captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni was officially inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame on Monday, June 9, 2025. The ceremony was held in London, just two days before the ICC World Test Championship final between South Africa and Australia at the iconic Lord’s Cricket Ground.

Joining Dhoni in the prestigious class of inductees were Australian opener Matthew Hayden and South African greats Hashim Amla and Graeme Smith. All four players were recognised for their extraordinary contributions to international cricket.

11th Indian in ICC Hall of Fame

With this honour, MS Dhoni becomes the 11th Indian and the 9th male Indian cricketer to be inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame. He now shares this elite space with cricketing legends like Kapil Dev, Rahul Dravid, Anil Kumble, Sunil Gavaskar, Bishan Singh Bedi, Sachin Tendulkar, and others.

In a statement issued by the ICC, Dhoni said,
“It is an honour to be named in the ICC Hall of Fame, which recognises the contributions of cricketers across generations and from all over the world. To have your name remembered alongside such all-time greats is a wonderful feeling. It is something that I will cherish forever.”

Captain Cool’s Legacy

Dhoni remains the only captain in the history of world cricket to have led his side to all three major ICC titles — the 2007 T20 World Cup, the 2011 ODI World Cup, and the 2013 Champions Trophy. Known for his calm demeanour and sharp tactical brain, Dhoni transformed Indian cricket with his leadership style and clutch performances.
