SGT University Concludes 15-Day World No Tobacco Day Campaign with Powerful Message

SGT University’s Faculty of Dental Sciences recently concluded a 15-day campaign to mark World No Tobacco Day, held from May 26 to June 6, 2025. The campaign was organized by the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology and the Department of Public Health Dentistry, with the aim of raising awareness among youth and the community about the harmful effects of tobacco.

The campaign commenced on June 2 with a national-level webinar titled “Unmasking the Appeal: Exposing Industry Tactics”. The session featured Dr. Hansa Kundu from Vital Strategies as the key speaker. Attended by participants from across India, the webinar discussed manipulative marketing strategies employed by the tobacco industry and emphasized the urgent need for awareness.

For 15 days, the campaign engaged students, faculty, and patients through a variety of creative and educational events. These included:

  • Nukkad Natak (Street Play) on the ill-effects of tobacco

  • Poster-Making Competition

  • Extempore Contest on youth perspectives

  • On-spot Tobacco Cessation Counselling for real-time support

The campaign concluded with a Prize Distribution Ceremony, honouring winners and participants who contributed to the initiative.

As part of its continued effort, the university also highlighted the services offered by its Tobacco Cessation Centre (TCC), where patients battling tobacco addiction can receive free, expert counselling and support.

The initiative reflects SGT University’s commitment to fostering a healthier and more informed society. The campaign not only educated participants but also encouraged behavioral change, reinforcing the call for a tobacco-free future.
