Operation Jal Rahat-2: Over 500 Rescued by Indian Army and Assam Rifles Amid Manipur Flood
Imphal, June 2 – On the second day of Operation Jal Rahat-2, the Indian Army and Assam Rifles rescued over 500 individuals, including children and the elderly, from flood-affected regions in Imphal East and Imphal West districts of Manipur. The operation was launched in response to widespread waterlogging and flooding due to heavy rains.
Deploying ten flood relief columns, the forces reached critical and inundated areas such as Wangkhei, Heingang, Lamlong, Khurai, NIMS, and Ahallup, using specialized BAUTs (Boat Assault Universal Type) and inflatable boats provided by Army Engineers. At JNIMS hospital, rescue teams used boats to evacuate stranded patients, ensuring their safety and timely medical attention.
In a significant preventive effort, troops also conducted emergency repairs to the breached Iril River boundary wall near Arapti Lamkhai in Lilong, located in Thoubal District, in a bid to halt further flooding.
Beyond rescue operations, the Army and Assam Rifles teams distributed 800 bottles of clean drinking water and other essential supplies to displaced families in multiple relief camps. These efforts were carried out in close coordination with the civil administration, showcasing the collaborative response to the ongoing flood emergency.
