Monsoon Session of Parliament Scheduled from July 21 to August 21
The Government of India has officially announced the dates for the upcoming Monsoon Session of Parliament, which will take place from July 21 to August 21, 2025. President Droupadi Murmu has approved the proposal, as confirmed by Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.
Due to Independence Day celebrations, there will be no sittings on August 13 and 14.
This Monsoon Session will be the first parliamentary gathering following Operation Sindoor, India’s counter-terror mission launched in response to the Pahalgam terror attack in Jammu and Kashmir that claimed 26 lives in May.
The session is expected to be action-packed, with opposition parties already demanding discussions on national security, inflation, and electoral reforms. Additionally, the government is likely to introduce key legislations and bills aimed at economic recovery, agriculture reforms, and digital infrastructure development.
The previous Budget Session, which began on January 31, included the passage of several key bills, including the Waqf Amendment Bill and the Finance Bill 2025. A total of 26 sittings were held during that session, with focused debates on railways, health, home affairs, and education.
Among the major topics for the Monsoon Session are:
-
Supplementary Demands for Grants for states like Manipur.
-
Further discussions on critical mineral extraction and security.
-
Policy measures for youth employment and skill development.
The government may also table new amendments related to data protection, AI regulation, and cybercrime, especially after recent concerns over online data breaches.
In the Lok Sabha, the Demands for Grants related to railways, agriculture, and water resources are expected to be discussed and voted upon. The Rajya Sabha will likely take up reviews of various ministries’ functioning.
Minister Rijiju expressed hope that the session would proceed with constructive cooperation from all parties. Parliamentary committees have already begun preparing reports to be tabled during the session.
As India continues to position itself as a global power, the upcoming session holds significance not just for domestic policy but also for projecting a stable and democratic governance framework to the world.
