Security Measures and Preparations for Lok Sabha Vote Counting in Delhi
Reported by Harsh Kumar
As Delhi gears up for the counting of votes for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, the Delhi Police have implemented several security measures around the Indira Gandhi International (IGI) Airport. These precautions are in place from June 1 to July 30 to ensure the safety of aviation operations and the upcoming political events, including the arrival of VVIPs and the swearing-in ceremony of the new Prime Minister.
Key Points of the Security Measures:
1. Section 144 Imposed: To enhance safety, Section 144 has been enforced around IGI Airport, prohibiting gatherings and restricting certain activities.
2. Ban on Drones and Laser Beams: The use of drones and laser beams is banned in the approach path of flights. This decision follows reports from Air Traffic Control about distractions caused by these devices, which pose serious risks to flight safety.
3. Preventing Terrorist Threats: Authorities are also concerned about the potential use of drones for terrorist activities. The measures aim to prevent any such threats and ensure public safety.
4. Disruptive Activities: Many nearby venues like farmhouses, hotels, and banquet halls use lights and laser beams during events, which can distract pilots. The ban addresses these disruptions.
5. Vote-Counting Day Preparations: For the vote-counting day on June 4, extensive security arrangements are in place. Around 70 companies of the Delhi Police will be stationed at seven counting centers across the city to maintain order and safety.
By implementing these measures, the Delhi Police aim to ensure a smooth and secure environment during this crucial period, safeguarding both the public and important political activities.
