The Department of Paramedical Sciences organizes a Symposium “Understanding the Fascinating Brain”

The program of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology under the aegis of the Department of Paramedical Sciences, Faculty of Allied Health Sciences, SGT University, organized a Symposium on the theme “Understanding the Fascinating Brain” on Saturday, 10th December, 2022. The theme was convened to get a better understanding of one of the most fascinating organs of the human body, the Brain. The symposium was organized to not only enhance the knowledge of present students about how our brain controls our body functions and its physiology, but also to create awareness about the Neuroscience and Neurotechnology field in order to attract young and talented minds to choose this field as a career.

The guest speakers of the symposium were eminent neurologists and neuroscientists, experts on their subjects with more than 20 years of experience in the field. Prof Ejaz Hussain, Dean, FAHS, HoDs and various faculties of FAHS were present in the symposium. More than 200 students across various programs of FAHS also actively participated in the event. The symposium was inaugurated with the lamp-lighting ceremony. Dr Vibha Madan Jha, Head of the Department of Paramedical Sciences, FAHS, delivered a welcome address followed by the wonderful and invigorating sessions of expert talk by the Guest Speakers. The first talk of the symposium was by Prof Neera Chaudhry, Head of Neurology Department, VMMC and Safdarjung Hospital, New Delhi. She delivered a lecture on ‘Epilepsy and ketogenic diet’. Thereafter, Prof Rajat Sandhir, Department of Biochemistry, Punjab University, Chandigarh, gave an insightful lecture on ‘Heat and pain sensing pathways’. This was followed by an informative talk on the ‘Preoptic orchestra of sleep’ by Prof H.N. Mallick, Head of Department of Physiology, SGT University, Gurugram. The symposium ended with a very interesting and motivating lecture by Dr. Sushil Jha, Associate Professor, School of Life Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, on the topic ‘Phantoms in the brain’. Dean, FAHS, Prof Hussain also shared his thoughts with the students. He emphasized on the study of Neuroscience and Neurotechnology and encouraged the students to design or develop mechanisms to communicate the brain’s thought process to switch on/operate machines using brain-machine interface. Dr. Vibha M Jha concluded the symposium with a vote of thanks.
