In the midst of a powerful storm, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is facing challenging weather conditions, prompting a high alert across the nation. Heavy rains and thunderstorms have swept through the region, disrupting daily life and necessitating a range of precautionary actions.

On Thursday, as the weather reached its peak, residents were strongly advised to remain indoors, with remote work mandated for both public and private sector employees. Educational institutions swiftly transitioned to online learning to ensure the safety of students. Additionally, public recreational areas, including parks and beaches, were temporarily closed to prevent any mishaps in the adverse weather.

The National Center of Meteorology (NCM) has issued vital guidance for residents, stressing the importance of caution. “Avoid unnecessary travel and drive only if absolutely essential. If driving is unavoidable, proceed with extreme care and stay alert to ensure the safety of all road users,” the alert emphasized. Motorists were also reminded to use low-beam headlights to improve visibility during heavy rainfall.

Emirates airline was compelled to cancel numerous flights due to the severe weather conditions, with Dubai International Airport (DXB) scaling back flight operations as a precautionary measure.

According to the Met office, rain-bearing clouds initially appeared in the Al Dhafra and Al Sila areas west of Abu Dhabi around midnight. By 1:30 AM, these conditions had spread to the western islands of Abu Dhabi, where moderate to heavy rains and small hailstones were reported.

Dubai Police and the NCM have been actively issuing updates and safety tips to the public. Intercity bus services were suspended, and certain roads were closed to mitigate the risks of accidents resulting from waterlogging and slippery conditions. Lightning was observed in areas like Dubai as early as 2:35 AM, intensifying the heavy rains.

Authorities have stressed the utmost importance of adhering to safety guidelines. The public has been urged to refrain from unnecessary travel, and those who must venture out are urged to exercise extreme caution.

As the situation continues to unfold, emergency services remain on high alert, with the government assuring that all necessary measures are in place to manage the impacts of the storms and safeguard public safety.
