11 Dead, 33 Injured in Bengaluru RCB Victory Parade Stampede, CM Orders Probe, Announces ₹10 Lakh Aid

Bengaluru, June 5, 2025: What was meant to be a historic celebration for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) fans turned into a tragic stampede at M Chinnaswamy Stadium, claiming 11 lives and injuring at least 33 individuals. The crowd had gathered to celebrate RCB’s maiden IPL title victory, with numbers reportedly reaching up to 2–3 lakh, overwhelming the stadium’s 35,000 seating capacity.

Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah, while addressing the media, confirmed the casualties and announced a compensation of ₹10 lakh each for the families of the deceased. Among the injured, one person is said to be in critical condition and is being treated at NIMHANS, while others have been admitted to Bowring and Vydehi hospitals.

“This was a major tragedy,” said CM Siddaramaiah. “The turnout was far beyond what we anticipated. In front of Vidhana Soudha, nearly one lakh gathered without incident, but near Chinnaswamy Stadium, casualties occurred due to overcrowding. Most of the deceased are young. We deeply regret this incident.”

The Chief Minister has ordered a magisterial inquiry into the incident and assured that strict action will be taken based on the findings. “I do not want to politicize this tragedy. This was unexpected. Let the inquiry report come out in 15 days, and appropriate measures will be taken.”

The government is under pressure to address crowd control policies at public events, especially when celebrating large-scale victories. Experts say this is a wake-up call for better planning and coordination between event organizers, law enforcement, and local authorities.

Despite its celebratory origin, the parade turned into a somber reminder of the consequences of mismanagement and poor crowd control. Citizens, leaders, and cricket fans across the country have mourned the lives lost and demanded accountability.
