As quoted by Hellen Keller ‘Even without sight, there is still vision’. So, to serve the
complete or partially visually impaired students, the Department of Public Health Dentistry,
Faculty of Dental Sciences, SGT University along with the Department of Pedodontics in
continuation with World Oral Health 2023-month-long celebration activities organized a
dental check-up camp on 8th April 2023 (Saturday) at Blind Relief Association, New Delhi.
This was in continuation of the oral health screenings conducted on 1 st April 2023, for the
children at this facility.
The idea of this series of engagements for this target group was conceived by all faculty
members of the Department of Public Health Dentistry and Blind School authorities under the
guidance and leadership of Dr. Shourya Tandon (Associate Dean and Prof. and Head).
The dental team on the day was headed by Dr. Surbhi Priyadarshi (Senior Lecturer, Dept. of
Public Health Dentistry) along with 1 postgraduate students Dr. Mansi (Dept. of Pedodontics)
and 3 interns Diksha, Livanshi, Lakshay. Dental checkup as well as treatment of 27 students
was done.
The camp initiated with a fun activity to make it more interactive, students were asked to pick
up folded chits kept in a bowl and were further asked to speak on the topic mentioned in the
chits. Toothbrush, toothpaste, oral health, how to brush etc. – were a few topics mentioned in
the chits. Some students voluntarily recited poems, jokes and sang a song. Some students
were given samples of toothbrushes, toothpastes and were asked to identify the material and
speak a few lines about it.
To create awareness among them, dental awareness talk was delivered, educating students
about common dental ailments. Toothbrushing technique was demonstrated using dentoform
model and students were made to practice the same. Each student was assisted by the dental
team members during self-practice toothbrushing session.
The association authority appreciated the dental team for rendering their selfless service to
the students.
