Unveiling the Inner Sanctum: SGT University’s Mass Communication Students Explore the Parliament of India

Students from Mass Communication at SGT University, accompanied by the erudite Associate Professor Dr. Sarika Thakar and Assistant Professor Abhishek Dubey, embarked on an enlightening visit to the Parliament of India in New Delhi. This momentous educational excursion allowed the students to witness firsthand the intricate workings of India’s democratic institution and delve into its rich historical heritage. The visit was organized to provide a first-hand experience of the functioning of the Indian Parliament and foster a deeper understanding of its historical significance. Furthermore, they were privileged to see the magnificent exterior view of the new Parliament building, set to be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on May 28, 2023, this architectural marvel, standing tall in New Delhi, symbolizes the progress and aspirations of the nation. The students and faculty members were filled with awe and excitement as they glimpsed the magnificent structure, eagerly awaiting its formal inauguration.

Additionally, the group was honored to meet Mr. Raj Kumar, Director of the Lok Sabha Secretariat, who shared valuable insights about the prestigious Parliamentary Research and Information Department (PRIDE) and its esteemed internship program. Mr. Kumar’s engaging conversation shed light on the immense learning and growth opportunities available through PRIDE, inspiring the students to pursue future endeavors in the realm of parliamentary research and policymaking. This encounter provided a rare glimpse into the inner workings of the Lok Sabha Secretariat and catalyzed for the students’ aspirations to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s governance and public service.

The group, consisting of budding journalists and media professionals, embarked on their educational voyage on May 24, 2023, under the expert guidance of Dr. Sarika Thakar and Assistant Professor Abhishek Dubey. Upon arrival at the Parliament, the students were greeted by the impressive sight of the iconic Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha chambers, which resonate with immense historical and political significance. The students were granted unprecedented access to observe the deliberative processes within the hallowed chambers of the Lok Sabha and Rajya Sabha. This unique opportunity provided them with a comprehensive understanding of the legislative machinery and the democratic practices that shape the nation’s governance. Witnessing the articulate debates and passionate discussions within these august halls, the students were inspired by the fervor and dedication displayed by the honorable parliamentarians.

The group also had the privilege of visiting the Central Hall, an architectural marvel steeped in history, where momentous decisions have been made and celebrated since India’s independence. Additionally, the students explored the Parliament Museum, a treasure trove of knowledge and historical artifacts that chronicle the development of India’s parliamentary system. The students were captivated by the magnificent structure that houses the Parliament of India, renowned for its harmonious blend of traditional and contemporary architectural styles. As they explored the chambers, corridors, and committee rooms, they marveled at the historic artifacts, portraits, and sculptures that adorned the premises. The students from SGT University also had the privilege of exploring the second-largest Central Library of India, located within the Parliament premises. Immerse in a vast collection of books, research materials, and historical documents, the students delved into a world of knowledge that further enriched their understanding of India’s democratic heritage. Through guided tours and interactive sessions, they discovered this iconic institution’s architectural grandeur and symbolic significance.
